Recent Reads, A Sweet Video, and Christmas Cookies

It has been a cold week.  Of course, my heating unit chose this week to die.  I have what is probably a temporary fix now, but it's better than nothing.  I am so glad that tomorrow is Friday.  I still haven't bought those Christmas presents.  Actually, I bought one.  Lucy just moved into her house, and she has asked everybody for Lowe's gift cards.  She has visions of painting.  I have visions of her painting one wall and then paying someone to finish.  I think I know her better than she knows herself when it comes to these things.

JesseJesse by Jan Irving

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Closer to 3.5 stars

I enjoyed the story and liked the characters. I liked it more than a three star read, but there was just something that I can't pinpoint that didn't quite make it a four star read.

A Subtle Breeze (Southern Spirits, #1)A Subtle Breeze by Bailey Bradford

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a sweet read. Some readers might not like the instant-love scenario, especially since Brendan falls in love with Zeke's picture before he ever meets the man. I do appreciate the fact that Bradford does not portray every person living in a small town as a bigot.

When the Dead Speak (Southern Spirits, #2)When the Dead Speak by Bailey Bradford

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

This story has a little mystery and lots of loving. I did enjoy it quite a bit. I'm hoping there will be a third story in the series. The author definitely has a couple of characters who need their own story/stories.

Electric Melty TinglesElectric Melty Tingles by K.Z. Snow

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

K.Z. Snow has written a book that alternately made me laugh and cry. These are two wonderful characters who ultimately get everything they deserve. Unfortunately, the path there isn't smooth. If this is indicative of all Snow's writing, I'll definitely be reading more.

Warning for a couple of my friends: there is a group sex scene. I didn't feel that it took anything away from the relationship because of the place and time it occurred, but I know a few readers who like to know these things before reading.

  1. I'm sorry that your heater isn't working correctly. I hope you're able to stay warm this weekend.
I'll have to check out the KZ Snow book, I really liked Fugly.
    Have a great weekend, Eyre:)

  2. I love K.Z. Snow's books. I haven't downloaded this one yet, but I will. I can't keep up with her!

Ditto on the heater. Doesn't your landlord have to take care of that? In the meantime though, it sucks with heating issues when it's cold.

Yup, KZ writes some good stuff. :) Definitely recommended!

Thanks (mostly) for the holiday menz!

  4. Thanks, Andi! I hope you have a great weekend too!

Leah, I loved that book and need to read more by her. It is the landlord's job to keep the heat going, but the company has like 5,000 units. Several of them decided to stop working this week.

Chris, I have a temporary fix until the whole thing can be replaced. Didn't you like Santa and his pole? ;)

  5. That KZ is everywhere!

Odd...I'm in the same situation with needing to replace my furnace. The current one will suffice for a few more days, but it's on its last leg.

    Thanks for the Christmas cookies!

  7. Hi, Eyre! Thanks for giving me (well, not me, but one of my stories *g*) a try.

Yikes, this must be the week for heating problems! The ceramic-glass window in the door of our woodstove got badly cracked today and must be replaced. The stove is about 20 years old, however, and its maker has gone out of business. My SO, who redefines the term tightwad, has been having major hissy fits. Not a good night...

  8. Ah, nothing like a strategically placed Santa hat to warm you up. However I hope you get your heating system properly fixed soon so you don't have to worry. Good luck with the shopping and thanks for the video and the lovely cookies.

  9. Sorry to hear about the heater problems. :( My furnace died last winter, in January, and I had to replace it. Not a fun bill to pay. I hope yours gets fixed for good soon.

Painting is one of those things that sounds like a 'fun and easy' project. How hard can it be to wield a paint brush? And it's fun picking out colors. But, yeah, after one wall, all the fun wears off. Well, with me, the fun is all gone by the time I've finished taping the trim and before I even get to the actual painting.

  10. I hope your heating problem is fixed quickly. *shivers in sympathy*

The only one of those I've read is KZ's story and I loved it!! She awesome, isn't she?

Thanks for the yummy Xmas cookies and video.

    Have a great Friday!

  11. K.A., thanks for stopping by! I loved the story. I'm feeling your pain with the heat troubles. Hopefully, you can get it fixed soox (and cheaply).

Tam, thanks! Glad you liked the cookies and the video. :)

Ava, nothing about painting sounds fun to me. Lucy tried to paint a tiny bathroom once. It was a disaster. Somehow, she remembers it being easier than it was.

Lily, thanks! I hope you have a fabulous Friday!

  13. Glad you liked the guys, E.H.

I sometimes think I need more time in my days, but I'm sure even if the day were longer I'd still be behind. :)
